What does troffer mean in lighting?

However, now troffer lighting is available in LED.

What is a troffer panel?

A troffer is a rectangular or square light fixture that typically fits into a modular dropped ceiling grid, often described as “recessed.” Historically, troffer fixtures have been designed to accommodate standard fluorescent lamps like T12 or T8 bulbs. However, now troffer lighting is available in LED.

Where are troffer lights used?

Troffers are typically used in commercial applications, but can be used in garages, utility rooms, and basements with dropped ceilings. They distribute light downward, but vary greatly in the spread of the light distribution pattern.

What are the three common troffer lighting?

Troffer lighting (aka recessed troffer lighting) is a term that is often used to describe indoor lighting fixtures that are mounted within a ceiling or ceiling grid, hence the term “recessed.” Typical fixture sizes include 1×4 troffers, 2×2 troffers, and 2×4 troffers.

How far apart should troffer lights be?

To determine how far apart recessed lighting should be, divide the height of the ceiling by 2 and use that as your light spacing.

How do you install a 2×4 LED lay-in troffer?

Start by ensuring the power is off to the area you will be working to avoid electrical shock hazards. Remove the ceiling tiles from where the fixture will be installed. Drill holes into the internal ceiling large enough to support anchors. Make sure the drill holes line up with the exact measurements of the openings on the fixture. Screw the eye bolts into the anchors. Set the fixture in the T-bar framework before attaching the luminaire to the lined-up eye bolt. Make sure you wrap the wiring around to give the fixture extra support in the event of the T-bar collapsing. Connect the corresponding wiring and install the ballast cover. Install lamps and close the cover of the fixture. Turn the breaker back on and enjoy your LED troffer!

How much does a 2×4 light fixture weigh?

The weight of a 2×4 light fixture is usually between 14-18 pounds. If they are all the same size, then why are there different weights available? It is important to keep in mind that weight is usually a factor of the types of materials used in construction and some materials naturally weigh a bit more.
